Team trip to watch ASU vs. DePaul

The girls enjoyed a break from finals with a road trip to Chicago! First it was to Dave and Buster’s for a meal and games where the girls racked up the tickets. From there it was off to the campus of DePaul to watch Arizona St. take on DePaul. It was a neat atmosphere with a loud pep band and many t-shirts were caught by the girls. It was a fun game to watch and learn from as DePaul came out on top. The girls had a lot of fun enjoying the trip with their teammates and bonding as well. Merry Christmas!

The girls basketball team kicks off it’s season tonight vs. Mahomet-Seymour in the 5th Annual Blue Star Country Classic Tournament. Good luck ladies!

Friday 25th

11:30 AM (Fieldhouse Court #1) vs. NCHS - STM is the away team (dark Jersey)

3:00 PM (FH Court #1) vs. Rantoul - STM is the home team (white jersey)

Saturday 26th

11:30 AM (Main Gym) vs. Centennial - STM is the away team (dark jersey)

3:00 or 4:00 PM vs. depending on results of previous games

Admission: $5 for Adults & $3 for Students per session; Adult tournament pass $15 & $7 Student Tournament Pass

New Game on Schedule

There has been a game added to the schedule on Monday November 28th against Prairie Central at Home. Please put on the master schedule and come ready to cheer on the Sabers!

Practice Time Change

Monday’s practice will be from 3:30 to 5 because of Volleyball practice for Sectionals; CONGRATULATIONS to the Volleyball team!

Tuesday’s practice will be from 3:30 to 5:15 that way if any of the girl’s want to go to the Volleyball game in Monticello.

Wednesday’s practice is TBA and the Parents Meeting as well.

Thursday’s practice time will stay the same 3:30-5:30.

Friday will be TBA and Saturday will stay the same 9-11 AM.

Volleyball players do not need to be at basketball practice until volleyball is over and they get a couple days break! Coach Schreder will let them know when they are expected at practice.

Mennig to coach at Arizona State University for one season

Head Coach Chris Mennig will be taking a one year professional leave of absence to go back to the college ranks as a women’s basketball assistant coach at Arizona State University. Mennig starts his duties in August 2011 and is contracted until March 31, 2012 at which time he will return to STM program and his USJN/Blue Star Basketball duties.

Coach Jason Schreder will assume the head coaching role for the 2011-12 season with assistants - Scott DeWitt, Kate Melby, Kevin Sullivan. Also additions to that staff include: Braden Heil (former NAIA asst. coach & U. of I manager while Mennig was at Illinois) as well as past all-conference standout Brittany Einck ‘10.

Arizona State will play AT DePaul Univ. in Chicago this season on December 16th - Plans will be made for a ‘road trip’ to go and see Coach Mennig when he returns to Illinois this winter.

Arizona State (Pac-12 conference) was 20-13 last year and in the NCAA tournament (been to the tourn. 6 of past 7 years) - Their head coach Charlie Turner-Thorne is the WBCA (Women’s Basketball Coaches Assoc.) President and is taking a 9-month leave of absence. She & interim head coach Joseph Anders asked Coach Mennig to join her staff and assist for this season while she takes some time for herself & her family. Mennig stated, “When your governing body president comes and asks you to help out her program - How do you say “No”? The opportunity to work with and learn from a Top 25 program for a season is truly humbling, but to be afforded the ability to then return to the team and community that I call ‘home’, is a life journey that is truly unique.”
